Bimini

An idyllic getaway, Bimini embodies the uniqueness, vibrancy and local flair of the Bahamas. It consists of two main islands, North Bimini and South Bimini, just 50 miles off the coast of Florida. As the nearest Bahamian island to the United States, it is an excellent destination for a weekend of relaxation in a tropical setting. It has majestic beaches, excellent food and accommodations, and an intriguing history. There is legend that Juan Ponce de León went in search of the Fountain of Youth in Bimini in the 1500s after learning of its existence from the Indians. According to Indian legend, those who bathed or drank from the spring would be rejuvenated.

The island is also known for having hosted Ernest Hemingway, who wrote The Old Man and the Sea there (the house where he often stayed can be visited), Jimmy Buffett, and Martin Luther King Jr.
